Donald MacKinnon

Updated: Oct 17, 2019

Donald Wallace MacKinnon (1903-1987) was an American psychologist and professor at the University of California, Berkely. He was known for researching the psychology of creative people. He was the founding director of the Institute of Personality Assessment and Research in 1949. At that time the recruitment of the Office of War information (later CIA) was done without any proper assessment methods. MacKinnon developed a thorough assessment program for recruits which helped to categorize recruits fit or unfit for the job of spying. He wrote a monogram on his method: Assessment of Men. His work was the start of a movement to reach human potential.
